A recent rumor suggests Apple (News - Alert) will be ditching its signature 30-pin dock connector for a smaller more efficient “micro-dock.” The new dock is a space saving move, as it is predicted to free up a loads of space to make room for things like a bigger battery, a 4G radio, and any other component that is necessary for an elite mobile device.
The dock connector is one thing that has been essentially unchanged in iPhone (News - Alert) models for several generations, and with the Apple’s new Wi-Fi Sync feature released on iOS 5, users can synchronize large media files over a network without physically connecting the device.
Apple has plenty to look forward to in its future, and it should not worry what critics may say about this latest move. For example, Apple has always taken criticism for its lack of flash capabilities. However, the iPhone and iPod Touch alone account for roughly 30 percent of all mobile videos used. As new iOS models without the micro-dock are rolled out, Apple has an even greater opportunity to dominate the mobile video market with more room for added capabilities.
With innovative iPhone accessories and applications hitting the market each month, a change to the iOS system is something its dedicated users should look forward too. Apple has continued to unveil and produce innovative products in the months since Steve Job’s passing. The late Jobs was a strong advocate for change and evolution in the Apple product line and it is refreshing to see the company sticking to what made it work for the past decade and a half.
Instead of changing the culture and atmosphere, Apple has kept the evolutionary ideas that have made it what it is today. The new changes to the “micro-dock” should be a welcomed addition, Apple prides itself on its evolution and adaptation to today’s newest capabilities and this newest change will only make the next operating system more efficient and effective.
