Apple's iPad 2 Recycling Program can Bring a Pretty Penny

There were many, many rumors about what kind of features the new iPad  would boast. Now that the device has actually hit shelves, one of the drawbacks is that the iPad 2 you bought all of 12 months ago is being left behind. One of the real negatives of being a devoted fan of Apple (News - Alert) is that you often find yourself having the top of the line product one day, and being one step behind the next. Apple simply churns out products (especially ultra-popular products) at an incredibly fast rate.

One of the positives of being a devoted fan of Apple is that there are a couple of steps the company has taken to make sure that you won’t be losing all of your money should you have to upgrade to the newest device. Apple has a reuse and recycle program that will pay you to return your old iPad 2 rather than just tossing it away. While other companies have a recycling for money program, their devices tend to lose value quickly once they roll out of the store.

Apple is actually offering pretty good prices for those who wish to give back their iPad 2’s, most likely so that they can get the new iPad  when the two to three week waiting periods finally die down. For those who have a basic iPad 2 with a 16 GB hard drive, Apple will give them $205 in the recycling program. The iPad 2 (16GB) with 3G can be returned for $250. The prices for the iPad 2 with 32 GB of memory is $245 for the regular Wi-Fi only version and $280 for the 3G version.

Of course the 64 GB version of the device is bring back the most money. The Wi-Fi only version of this version is bringing back $275 while the version that also includes a 3G connection will bring back $320. While none of these prices will make the new iPad  anywhere close to free, they will work to make the cost of the newest iPad just a little more affordable.
