Rumors Mill About Features, Release Date of iPhone 5

Apple (News - Alert) is a great source for new product speculation. Compared to other companies, they release a whole lot less, and so when a new product from Apple looks to make an appearance, it generally doesn’t arrive without a lot of early news, speculation, analyst reports and more trying to pin down just what exactly the new product will be like. The iPhone 5, set to hit this fall, is no exception.

Reports have already emerged suggesting the iPhone (News - Alert) 5 will keep its 3.5 inch screen, making it similar to that of the iPhone 4S. But the current word is that most everything else, from the design to the processors to the vaunted 30-pin dock connector, will change to a smaller “micro-dock” system, freeing up more room on the inside of the phone so more components can operate within the device.

Conversely, of course, it's possible the iPhone 5 won't boast so many more components, instead taking advantage of the micro-dock to slim down even more than normal. Based on early concept art, this may well prove to be the case, but it's likely that Apple won't thin out too much, especially given how thin the iPhone already is.

Apple, for its part, isn't confirming or denying anything. The firm seldom issues statements about products that don't yet exist, especially new iPhones. Considering this is set to hit by the end of the year, however, some figure as early as this fall.

Many look forward to the iPhone 5’s launch, especially those who enjoyed the iPhone 4S. From the sounds of things, Apple's latest phone will enjoy the same kind of primacy in the market as its predecessor.
