TripSketch Corporation, a company focused on green travel mobile apps and Web trip-planning tools, is launching a number of regional green travel guides as smartphone applications. The iPhone (News - Alert) and Android apps build on the company’s Global Green Book application.
The apps provide in-depth coverage of environmentally friendly and sustainable hotels, restaurants, attractions, travel services, tours, and community enterprises.
The guides cover the northeast U.S., western U.S., U.S. Midwest, southern U.S., and southwestern U.S. The other guides cover Canada, northern Europe, France and southern Europe, central Europe, Asia, and Australia and New Zealand.
After travelers download the app, the guides are stored in full on their smartphones, mitigating the need to find Wi-Fi or carrier-based Internet access, which can often prove costly while travelling.
Each app provides detailed coverage on six to 12 major regional cities. The apps provide planning, mapping and scheduling features. Additionally, information on lesser-known nearby cities is given to help travelers plan day trips.
Activities can be added to a phone’s calendar, while filtered travel options and trip ideas based on distance from the traveler’s current location are available when the GPS is activated.
The apps also offer a “don’t miss” feature, which lets travelers check the most popular attractions on their itineraries, while making environmentally and socially conscious travel decisions.
“With our new suite of in-depth Regional Green Travel Guides, we have added robust features that make trip planning, mapping and calendaring even more convenient and useful for travelers who want to plan and enjoy enriching travel experiences,” said Lalitha Swart, TripSketch founder and CEO.
TripSketch was named the Eco/Being Green award-winner of Nokia’s (News - Alert) Calling All Innovators Global Contest in 2010 for its Green Traveler app. The company was founded in 2007.
