AllTrails Scores High as Outdoor Enthusiasts Revel in its Outdoor App

Founded by Russell Cook in 2010, AllTrails, the digital network focused on outdoor enthusiasts, released its first outdoor mobile application in 2011, and from that time onward, it has surged in popularity to become one of the top outdoor apps for the iPhone and Android (News - Alert).

"When we launched our Android app last year we never dreamt that it would so quickly overtake the huge head start of our iPhone application,” noted Justin Ip, head of product at AllTrails.

But, that's not all! AllTrails has more reason to celebrate. It has recorded ‘more than a million' installs of its outdoor app and also successfully launched its premium subscription service in over 200 retailers.

The rapid adoption of smartphones was largely responsible for bringing the AllTrails premium subscription service to retail.

AllTrails partnership with National Geographic has proved to be invaluable as the software startup got the opportunity to help design packaging and take its physical product to market, something that rarely happens. The product will be sold under the name "The Ultimate Outdoor MapKit" and will be co-branded under both the AllTrails and National Geographic brands.

“Retailers are seeing consumers do more on their mobile devices and they are looking for products like MapKit that allow them to better serve those customers,” observed Cook.

Customers purchasing MapKit are expected to have unlimited access to National Geographic TOPO! and Trails Illustrated maps, as well as advanced trip-planning tools. The tools can be accessed online, offline or by printing maps on-demand. Now, outdoor enthusiasts can easily access and discover the best destinations.

Ip noted that AllTrails had plans for 2013 and was confident that the growing base of mobile app users would be delighted at what the company had in store for them.

With its rather comprehensive database of hiking, biking and outdoor trails all over the world, it's no wonder that users appear to love the AllTrails outdoor app.

The Alabama Department of Conservation and natural resources is proud to announce its first-ever mobile application now available on iTunes. The iPhone (News - Alert) application, Outdoor Alabama, offers a variety of useful tools and information for on-the-go hunters, anglers and outdoorsman throughout the state of Alabama and can be downloaded for free.
