Everything seems to be going the digital way, and with smartphone users getting used to “having everything at their fingertips,” even the food ordering service seems to be doing “online rounds.”

Online mobile food ordering platforms like GrubHub are taking advantage of this and introducing new twists users are likely to appreciate, given their “no time for anything” approach.

Select GrubHub diners in six cities, at least for now, have unveiled the beta release of Track your Grub that promises to provide diners with unparalleled transparency into the ordering and delivery process, with real-time notifications and order mappings, said officials.

Thanks to GrubHub's in-restaurant OrderHub tablet and new delivery driver mobile app, DeliveryHub, diners claim to be informed through SMS text notifications when food is available for pickup or has left the restaurant for delivery.

In certain areas, diners can even track the last leg of the delivery process.

GrubHub's OrderHub technology, intended to streamline the order confirmation process, was introduced in May 2012, while DeliveryHub was rolled out in early October as the industry's first comprehensive delivery app that helped drivers to be more efficient in their delivery routes.

"We've always focused on introducing technology that meets the needs of both our restaurants and diners," said Matt Maloney, cofounder and CEO at GrubHub. "Track Your Grub empowers our diners with the knowledge of exactly where their food is in the takeout process while giving our restaurants tools to make their operations more efficient."

Available in more than 400 cities across the nation, GrubHub features more than 17,000 online ordering restaurants. The platform shows diners local restaurants that are available for delivery or pickup.

More and more restaurants are expected to don the Track Your Grub badge and will be visible on the service's website and mobile apps.

GrubHub, a food ordering service, used the past year of orders to identify the most patriotic food. While it may come as no surprise that pizza tops the list of favorite American foods, diners' tastes have evolved to prefer more unusual pizza toppings, with Hawaiian and Buffalo Chicken ranking among GrubHub's most popular pizza toppings.
