It may forever remain a mystery what the hundreds of thousands of apps currently on the market do, but the fact that they continue to be created on a daily basis means something very important; that this platform encourages innovation.

This same concept is being deployed by many different companies to create applications in their industry to provide better products, services and customer engagement. KPIT Cummins is an IT consulting and product engineering firm that specializes in several different industries including automotive. The company’s unique Apps-to-Go app deployment framework is designed for in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) systems, which allow users to update their vehicle’s IVI system via smartphone.

The concept for Apps-to-Go is to provide a tool for automobile manufacturers and other Tier 1 service and product providers a way in which they can securely communicate with their as well as provide them with the information they need. This information can be controlled through mobile devices and head units. The system can be integrated through a Linux IVI platform as well as Android (News - Alert) and iOS mobile operating systems. Developers using HTML5 can create apps that can be used with different mobile devices and infotainment systems.

“Our endeavor to enable car makers overcome the challenge of keeping consumers informed, entertained and safe in their cars has led us to develop Apps-to-Go. With Apps-to-Go, drivers and passengers can not only manage media content, they will also be able to have personalized, in-car experiences. Users will never be stuck with outdated technology as car makers will be able to provide updates, services & information through apps.” explained Anup Sable, Senior VP & Head – Automotive Business, KPIT Cummins, on the development.

Furthermore, the framework comes pre-integrated with the company’s production-ready infotainment software, KIVI (KPIT In-Vehicle Infotainment), enabling manufacturers to make changes more quickly and efficiently by allowing native third party apps that can be downloaded to make necessary updates securely.

The system also boasts a driver’s assistance system, remote diagnostics services and vehicle tracking. It is in these ways that the consumer becomes part of the process of improving the vehicles safety, performance and maintenance, creating a social relationship. This system can change in-vehicle infotainment platforms so it can meet the demand of each individual, according to their driving and entertainment need.
