Apples Seeing Record iPhone 4S Sales, Outpouring of Support for Steve Jobs

Any analyst who thought that the iPhone 4S would lose some steam simply because it wasn’t hyped as much as the iPhone 5 might have some egg on their faces today. Apple (News - Alert) has shattered the sales record for the iPhone, thanks in large part to the fact that morecarriers are being allowed to sell the newest iPhone (News - Alert).

In total, the company sold more than 1 million pre-orders in the first 24 hours that they were available. It appears that at least some of the people who waited in line for more than three days to pick up their gadgets did so as a way of honoring Apple’s late CEO.

Sidney, Australia resident, Tom Mosca was one of those who stayed outside his Apple store for days, just so he could be the first in line when the phones went on sale. “I did it for Steve Jobs (News - Alert) as a tribute. I was very sad at his passing,” the 15 year old told AFP as he stood next to a makeshift tribute to Jobs

The same analysts who once said that the phone looked and acted far too much like the iPhone 4 are now saying that the reasons for the huge sales numbers could be because of Jobs finally losing his battle to cancer.

While wanting to be able to own the first device that was released post Jobs can certainly be a draw, there is little doubt that more people simply having access to it, is driving up demand. In Japan, cellular provider KDDI (News - Alert) is being allowed to sell Apple phones for the first time. More than 200 people gathered outside KDDI’s biggest store in order to get their phones.

Today, the iPhone 4S will be officially released in the United States, Germany, Great Britain, Canada and France. The phone will be available in 22 other countries by the end of the month. How well the iPhone 4S does, could serve as a test for Tim Cook, Jobs’ replacement. Can the company carry on with the same level of success without its visionary co-founder leading the way?
