INNOVENTIONS, a Houston-based manufacturer of computer memory testers for DDR, DDR2 and SDRAM, has announced the release of a free iPhone (News - Alert) app that demonstrates its patented RotoView ‘tilt and scroll’ display navigation system for smartphones.
RotoView, which was described by online magazine Brighthand.com as one of nine technologies “that could profoundly change handhelds,” offers a complement to multi-touch, especially when the user cannot use both hands.
The technology was invented to replace the cumbersome mechanical navigation switches used in mobile devices, including wireless phones and portable gaming systems, according to company officials.
With intuitive single-hand navigation, users can simply tilt the device left-right or up-down to see beyond the virtual boundaries of the display.
RotoView finds application in a wide range of portable devices, including smartphones, media players, GPS devices, e-book readers, cameras and tablet computers.
The free RotoView app is now available at the App Store.
INNOVENTIONS was awarded US Patents 6,466,198 and 6,933,923 for RotoView. This was further followed by European patent EP1, 290,672.
The company is currently porting the RotoView Technology to other smartphone platforms, including Google's Android (News - Alert) - and with a goal is to integrate RotoView into the core of all mobile operating systems.
