There are, without a doubt, many benefits to UC and VoIP solutions. The idea of having connected solutions that allow you to easily work from wherever, whenever, and from whatever device you want is appealing to almost everyone, with good reason. That’s why these communications capabilities are being implemented all around the world, from Australia to Canada to Sierra Leone. The most recent addition to this list is the U.S. Senate.

The U.S. Senate announced in a recent statement that it will be hopping on the VoIP bandwagon. The Senate has chosen CenturyLink (News - Alert) in a multiyear contract to provide its offices with a unified communications-as-a-service (UCaaS) platform for hosted voice-over-Internet-protocol (VoIP) services.

The three year contract, worth nearly $11.4 million, will see CenturyLink serving over 450 Senate offices in all 50 states. The company will perform installation, maintenance, operation and management of its hardware, software, training and help desk support functions.

Landing a contract of this caliber is a big deal for CenturyLink. The company is known for helping public sector customer migrate to a cloud-based network infrastructure, making it an obvious candidate for the Senate’s job. However, although this is a large job, it’s actually not CenturyLink’s largest within the public sector. Earlier this year, it secured an extension of its Networx Universal contract through the end of March 2020, and also extended its Networx Enterprise contract through the end of May 2020.

With such big names in its customer list, CenturyLink’s solutions are bound to grow in popularity. A company that can help the over 450 Senate offices seamlessly integrate an UCaaS platform for hosted VoIP is certainly capable of helping a small business or large corporation with the same task.

The future is looking bright for CenturyLink, and the company is excited to get started. “CenturyLink looks forward to providing U.S. Senate state offices with a modern, secure unified communications system that offers senators and their staff members more features and functionality,” said CenturyLink Senior Vice President and General Manager of Federal Solutions Erich Sanchack. “We're committed to providing innovative, cost-effective solutions that help agencies transform and modernize their legacy systems.”
