Transmitting video requires a robust infrastructure to ensure the best quality possible without interruptions. This is especially important for broadcasters with live feeds, whether there is a sporting event, breaking news or other type of broadcast. The quality of the transmission also takes an added level of urgency when it is being used for mission-critical applications by public safety and defense sectors. As a provider of critical wireless communication for use in challenging operating environments, the acquisition of Vislink Communication Systems ("Vislink") from Vislink, Plc. gives the company an end-to-end video transmission, capture and receive solution to broadcast globally across different sectors.

According to xG, this acquisition gives it a solution from Vislink that will be seamlessly integrated with its capabilities with little to no overlap between what both companies offer in terms of market coverage and sales channels. This, the company believes, will increase both of their potentials to gain new market shares.

This is a well thought out acquisition because the level of synergy is going to make each organization that much better. Vislink brings over five decades of experience with technology used by close to 70 percent of all outside wireless broadcasts, across more than 200,000 systems worldwide, to ensure the best video transmission possible. Some of the organizations using its technology include ESPN, NFL, CBS, Motorola (News - Alert), NBA, MLB, CNN, CBS, Fox and many others.

The CEO and Board Chairman of xG Technology George Schmitt put it like this: “The Vislink acquisition represents a transformational step for xG Technology (News - Alert), and we believe it will help xG realize overall revenues of at least $60 million in 2017. There are impressive sales, technology, and manufacturing synergies between Vislink and IMT which will be realized as we integrate the operations in 2017.”

He goes on to say, “In addition to providing us a position of market prominence in delivering customized video technology systems, this acquisition offers new opportunities to incorporate xG's patented interference mitigation and spectrum sharing technologies.”

What xG brings to the table is a technology that makes itself reliably and securely available for voice, broadband data and video communications. This includes its xMax and Integrated Microwave Technologies (News - Alert) (IMT), a patented all-IP, software-defined cognitive radio network that delivers mission-assured wireless connectivity in any RF environment. For broadcasters looking for reliability, this means their video transmission will always have a path to its destination.

The xMax platform continues to transmit in unpredictable environments and fluid situations in wide area and rapid emergency communication deployments using spectrum sharing, interference mitigation, multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) and software defined radio (SDR).

Roger Branton, CFO of xG Technology, said, “The Vislink deal, which builds upon our prior purchase of IMT, underscores our plan to effect strategic acquisitions that further the Company's long-term growth objectives. In the same way that we were successful in achieving efficiencies in all our business operating areas after acquiring IMT, we expect the Vislink acquisition to result in significant cost savings once it is fully integrated.”
