Compared to analog telephony systems, IP communications delivers a multitude of benefits when it comes to the way we communicate. In addition to the multiple options, the technology makes it possible for consumers and small businesses to access enterprise grade features at affordable price points. And one of the best ways to access these features is with an IP phone that is capable of leveraging the technology, which is what the Digium D80 has managed to do. For its efforts, the D80 was recognized by TMC (News - Alert) with two awards, including the 2017 Unified Communications Product of the Year, and 2017 INTERNET TELEPHONY TMC Labs Innovation Award winner presented by INTERNET TELEPHONY magazine.
As a global, integrated media company, TMC and its INTERNET TELEPHONY magazine provide unbiased views of the complicated converged communications space and give global buyers content-driven marketplaces to make educated purchase decisions and navigate markets.
The D80 comes from Digium, a company that delivers enterprise-class Unified Communications (UC) and UC as a Service (UCaaS) solutions along with the Asterisk (News - Alert) software, telephony hardware, and on-premises and hosted Switchvox business phone systems.
In presenting the D80 IP phone line with its awards, TMC CEO, Rich Tehrani, said, "Our judges were very impressed with the ingenuity and excellence displayed by Digium (News - Alert) in their groundbreaking work on the D80. I look forward to seeing more innovative solutions from them as they continue to contribute to the future of IP communications."
The D80 has a large seven-inch HD touchscreen that has integrated many of the functionalities of a smartphone, allowing users to access the interface of the communications platform without physical buttons. This lowers the learning curve of the system by making everything easily accessible on the touchscreen. Additional features include, support for wideband (HD) audio, electronic hook switch (EHS) headsets, dual 10/100/1000 Mbps Gigabit network ports, 100 rapid dial/busy lamp field (BLF) entries and advanced touch-optimized applications.
The full integration of Asterix also brings the world's most widely-adopted open source communication software to the D80, which includes the company's fully-featured UC solutions, advanced phone applications like visual voicemail, user presence, intelligent contacts and visual call parking.
"We're proud to be honored for our contributions to the UC landscape. Since introducing the D80 IP Phone (News - Alert) in February, the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. With our zero-button, completely touchscreen phone, we continue to push forward with innovative, easy-to-use and affordable devices," said David Deaton, vice president of products for Digium.
