Sigma Designs, which makes chipsets for IPTV set-top boxes, among other media devices, and Vietnam Multimedia Corporation (VTC), one of Vietnam’s largest multimedia corporations, have reportedly entered into an agreement to jointly develop and market high-performance set-top boxes for digital television, smart energy products and home connectivity solutions.



NeuLion, Inc., a leading multi-platform broadcast technology company that enables its partners to stream and monetize digital broadcast content, has launched a new College Division of NeuLion. The NeuLion College Division will be dedicated exclusively to college athletics. The company has also added two members to the leadership team, Mr. Steven Brown who will be the Senior Vice President of NeuLion College, and Mr. Ed O'Brien will hold the post of the Vice President of NeuLion College.



Only a few years ago, service provider Singapore Telecommunications Ltd., or SingTel, was struggling to make a dent in the country's subscriber TV service marketplace, which was dominated by rival operator StarHub. Today, the stats are different. Together with Internet service, SingTel boasts serving a much larger margin of the Singapore market as compared to 10 percent only a few years back.



IPTV solutions provider Tivus, Inc. recently attended the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) conference in Las Vegas.



Nielsen data suggests that the number of households dropping all linear video service in favor of online-only remains quite rare, except among younger viewers. Nielsen recently found that in households with people 25 years old or younger, 8.5 percent are cable-free, which is almost twice the national average.



Imago Group, a distributor of videoconferencing products in Europe, announced a new initiative for the IPTV segment. Breeze Technologies, a provider of the MPEG and IPTV solutions, which is represented exclusively by Imago in Europe, formed a strategic alliance with Vianeos, an IPTV middleware provider in France.



In-Stat, a leading market intelligence provider, has recently published the results of its latest research on 4Q 10 PayTV Subscribers Database. According to the report, the decline of Pay TV subscribers is being overcome with the rising global economy, and there has been a 6 percent increase in Pay TV subscribers in 2010 over 2009 across the world.



Motorola Mobility has acquired Dreampark, a Swedish IPTV software provider, reports TechCrunch. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Motorola says it expects the acquisition to close in the second quarter of this year.
