Only a few years ago, service provider Singapore Telecommunications Ltd., or SingTel, was struggling to make a dent in the country's subscriber TV service marketplace, which was dominated by rival operator StarHub. Today, the stats are different. Together with Internet service, SingTel boasts serving a much larger margin of the Singapore market as compared to 10 percent only a few years back.


Saudi Telecom (STC), a national telecommunications services provider in Saudi Arabia, has selected JDSU for IPTV monitoring solution. The solution, which was selected after evaluating a number of competitive bids, is expected to give STC the visibility to proactively detect and resolve IPTV service and network quality issues.

TV check-in service GetGlue added to its high-profile list of broadcast partners this week by inking a deal with NBC Universal cable networks USA, SyFy and MSNBC.

Sigma Designs, which makes system-on-chip solutions for set-top boxes and home networking gear, last week reported financial results for its fourth quarter and fiscal year ended January 29, 2011. The company reported net revenue of $70.6 million for the fourth quarter -- down $7.2 million, or 9 percent, from the $77.8 million it reported in the third quarter – but up $2.5 million, or 4 percent, compared to the fourth quarter last year, when it reported net revenue of $68.1 million.


Nearly 25 million U.S. households have watched online video on their standard TVs, Forrester Research reports. The U.S. online adults Forester Research surveyed reported that 14 percent of their total video viewing was coming from the Internet, on average. Assuming a typical user watches five hours a day worth of video, that implies about 42 minutes a day of online video consumption, using TVs, PCs or other devices.

Verimatrix, the specialist in securing and enhancing revenue for multi-screen digital TV services, announced that it deployed its Verimatrix Video Content Authority System (VCAS) for IPTV solution on Etisalat's IP-based pay-TV service in the United Arab Emirates.

Bluestreak Technology, a provider of software presentation solutions on multi-screen wireless and wired embedded devices, announced that SoftAtHome, a software provider of home operating platforms to deliver convergent applications, selected MachBlue Classic Flash-based platform.

EchoStar Europe, a developer of added value, connected device solutions to the digital television industry, announced its SlingLoaded HDS-600RS, an HD digital video recorder, will combine Freesat+ features with SlingMedia's place-shifting ability.
