Alert) Corporation, a national provider of entertainment, information and communications products and services, is holding its seventh annual “Comcast Cares Day” on Saturday, May 3. This event is one of the nation’s largest single-day corporate volunteer efforts, with 50,000 Comcast employees and their families and friends expected to participate. Those partaking in Saturday’s event are projected to volunteer 300,000 hours of service, benefiting nearly 500 community organizations in 37 states and the District of Columbia.
If combined with the previous Comcast Cares Days, the total volunteer hours of service is projected to exceed one million. Comcast will recognize the company employee who volunteers the ceremonial one millionth hour of service with a special celebration.
Comcast Corporation currently serves 24.7 million cable customers, 14.1 million high-speed Internet customers, and 5.2 million voice customers. Comcast is mainly involved in the development, management and operation of broadband cable systems and in the delivery of programming content.
"Comcast calls thousands of communities across the country 'home,' and we're very proud that 50,000 of our employees, their families and friends will give up their Saturday to help improve their neighborhoods," said Comcast Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Brian Roberts. "Comcast Cares Day is the cornerstone celebration of a year-long commitment to our community, and we're thrilled to partner with hundreds of organizations across the country to help make this special day a resounding success."
For the second year, local affiliates from the National Council of La Raza (NCLR), the largest national Hispanic civil rights and advocacy organization in the United States, and the local National Urban League, the nation's oldest and largest community-based movement devoted to empowering African Americans to enter the economic and social mainstream, will join Comcast as national partners of Comcast Cares Day.
Comcast’s collaboration with these groups is one of the main reasons “Comcast Cares Day” is able to accomplish so much in just one day. According to Comcast Executive Vice President David Cohen, "Our partnerships allow us to continue our work together to provide opportunities that improve the lives of Hispanics and African Americans in the thousands of communities we serve around the country."
Janet Murguia, NCLR president and CEO stated how excited and proud she is to join forces once again with Comcast on a project that will help so many throughout the country. “For NCLR, this is an example not only of Comcast's commitment to the communities in which it operates, but also of Comcast's recognition of the value of community-based organizations and of the important role that NCLR Affiliates play in creating stronger communities in every region of America. ‘Comcast Cares Day’ is a great example of how all of us can make a difference, by bringing to the table the best of what we do and working together," Murguia said.
"Comcast is leading efforts to help improve the overall quality of life for African Americans across the country," said Marc Morial, NUL president and CEO. "The National Urban League is thrilled to partner with Comcast, as ‘Comcast Cares Day’ should serve as a model of community outreach for other corporations."
The Comcast Foundation will also donate more than $1.5 million in grants to local community partner organizations for each employee and family member who volunteers on “Comcast Cares Day”. The grants will help Comcast's community partners continue their mission of serving the community throughout the year.
