Global Health TV, a web-based TV channel that documents global health issues from the field, launched a video upload facility to link global healthcare workers and communities and to facilitate collaboration, problem-solving and sharing of experiences.
The new service, “From the Field,” was launched in partnership with the Global Health Council and is available for free at
www.globalhealthtv.com.
The service will allow field-based healthcare workers from non-profit, government or charitable organizations to upload video that showcases projects and initiatives or that highlights problems for discussion. It will also enable local field workers and citizens, engaged in healthcare initiatives, to communicate to each other and to a wider community.
As a video-based service, “From the Field” will overcome many of the language barriers inherent in text-based sites, as well as allowing users to post comments, discuss issues and offer solutions. It will also portray real-world situations to help organizations to encourage donations to support specific projects.
The Global Health TV “From the Field” service will be demonstrated at the 35th Global Health Council Annual Conference in Washington D.C. from May 27-31. It was produced by WebsEdge.
“Real change happens in community-based citizen initiatives, rather than top-down programs, and through the co-ordination of thousands of services rather than through big politics. Most reports on global health issues in the developing world are delivered by foreign commentators – “our man in the field” – not from citizens within those communities who are tackling these issues on a daily basis. There is a real opportunity to empower communities and individuals through a forum that allows them to share ideas and best practices in a way that transcends language,” said Stephen Horn, CEO of WebsEdge.
