Orca Interactive Targets Asia Pacific Market for IPTV Expansion

By Shireen Dee, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Orca Interactive (News - Alert), a company that deals in IPTV (Internet Protocol Television) middleware and applications recently announced its plans to go into the Asia Pacific market.

Orca Interactive, a subsidiary of Viaccess, plans to help service providers and broadband network operators in the Asia-Pacific market accelerate growth by introducing the next generation interactive TV. In order to make a strategic expansion, Orca plans to start its business development activities in the Asia-Pacific regions during the last four months of 2008.

To set this into motion, Ofer Weintraub, Chief Technology Officer at Orca, spoke about the latest developments in IPTV (News - Alert), including Web 2.0 services and IPTV convergence, at the CommunicAsia conference in Singapore this month. In his presentation titled “A Clash of Civilizations: Do You Really Want Web 2.0 on Your IPTV?” Weintraub spoke about the challenges and potential of the integration of Web 2.0 services with IPTV.

Having been established in 1996, Orca Interactive is a wholly-owned unit of France Telecom (News - Alert) and is based in Ra’anana, Israel. This expansion made by Orca will be beneficial to operators across APAC (Asia and Pacific) by delivering such tools that will help them get their individual identities with customized system integrator (SI)-enabled solutions that are made to meet their specific needs.

“By extending the company's footprint in key Asia Pacific markets, Orca is delivering on its long-term commitment to the advancement of IPTV worldwide, now supported by Viaccess. This move, coupled with our vast experience gained in IPTV rollouts across Europe, the U.S. and Latin America, is testament to the maturity of our solution and to the advantages available to operators in APAC from our ever-expanding portfolio of services, technologies and partnerships,” said Sefy Ariely, vice president of Sales and Marketing at Orca Interactive.

“The IPTV market in Asia is on the rise and we are confident that this expansion will create exciting opportunities for further growth,” Ariely added.

Apart from including its RiGHTv middleware in its product range for APAC, Orca will also be displaying its content discovery platform, COMPASS, at CommunicAsia (News - Alert) this year.
