Symmetricom Launches Q-1200 Headend Analyzer
By Shireen Dee, TMCnet Contributing Editor
Symmetricom (News - Alert) recently announced the launch of the Q-1200, a scalable, multichannel video headend monitoring device. The Q-1200 digital/IP
video headend analyzer will help identify glitches in video broadcasting and deliver quality and sophisticated digital video. This solution is expected to be beneficial for telco and cable operators, as it will help to attract more customers at reduced operating costs.
The Q-1200 will be able to conduct complete audio/video analysis on 400 video streams and content analysis for up to 100 channels. It will also identify video impairments, both basic and sophisticated. The solution will be able to pick out problems in channel audio and/or video dropout, black/blue screen and major blockings. The Q-1200 is also able to assess video/audio with a sampling period for I frame (Intra pictures) and has been designed to be user friendly.
“With its multichannel scalability, deep content analysis, and centralized element manager, our Q-1200 replaces the need for expensive ‘golden eye’ operations personnel, enabling operators to accurately and cost effectively assure video quality at any headend location,” commented Dr. Stefan Winkler (News - Alert), principal technologist at Symmetricom’s telecom solutions division.
The Q-1200 is an integral part of the company’s V-FACTOR QoE (Quality of Experience) platform. This platform’s scalable solution will enable telco and cable operators facilities to not only observe the major sources of potential video and audio impairments but also assess the quality of a client’s visual experience. In affiliation with the company’s network probes, software agents, and NOC (News - Alert) software, the Q-1200 video headend analyzer will form a complete video QoE solution.
While at the headend the Q-1200 will work in specialized functionality; network nodes will be monitored by Symmetricom’s network probes and software resources thus ensuring the identification of video quality disabilities for the entire video delivery process. The resulting understanding of video quality services helps reduce costs through efficient diagnosis.
Telcos and cable operators stand to benefit a great deal from including IP/digital video into their offerings. However, because of high user expectations and an extremely competitive landscape, operators must deliver the highest quality video to maintain and grow their customer base.
"Symmetricom’s V-FACTOR digital video monitoring solution allows operators to ensure they are delivering exceptional quality of experience day in and day out,” elaborated Jeff Heynen, Infonetics directing analyst, broadband and IPTV
.
The Q-1200 is scheduled to be available in September this year.
