Netstream Choses Entone for HD IPTV Service Deployments in Switzerland
By Calvin Azuri, TMCnet Contributing Editor
The Hydra HD IPTV
gateway and Amulet HD IPTV receiver of Entone (News - Alert), Inc., have been selected by Netstream for their operator’s high-definition (HD) IPTV service deployments in Switzerland. Netstream is an Internet Service Provider (ISP) that provides managed services and systems integration to a list of telephone operators throughout Switzerland. The products and service solutions offered cover the areas of Connectivity, Voice, VoIP
, Streaming, Hosting, Security and Wholesale.
According to Reto Kasser, CTO of Netstream, “Our customers wanted a reliable solution that would allow them to rapidly deploy IPTV (News - Alert) services. We needed a robust IPTV set-top solution that was integrated with Minerva Network’s iTVManager middleware
platform. We selected the Entone solution because of its field-proven track record and its capability to use existing in-home wiring infrastructure.”
Entone provides IPTV home connectivity solutions and was established in 1999. The technology of Entone enables service providers to deliver integrated video and broadband services using existing in-home networks. The company focuses on improving the business case for video services by offering products that address key CAPEX and OPEX (News - Alert) issues. These issues are usually associated with deploying IP
video services. Entone is headquartered in California.
The Hydra HD and Amulet HD enable HD IPTV and broadband video services using MPEG-4 compression
technologies. The devices along with their software platforms are pre-integrated with middleware and digital rights management solutions. They also offer a number of optional features, such as a digital video recorder (DVR), an ATSC/QAM tuner, or a DVB-T/DVB-C tuner for receiving over-the-air broadcast television. Hydra HD and Amulet HD also support a broad range of home networking technologies (802.11n, HomePlug and HomePNA (News - Alert) 3.0) for a wider distribution of video content. Because of these features, service providers are able to provide new revenue-generating services such as whole-home DVR.
Ian Jefferson, vice president of business development at Entone, stated that “Switzerland represents one of the fastest growing IPTV markets in Europe. The Netstream deployments further represent Entone’s commitment to providing world-class IPTV solutions tailored for the European marketplace. We are pleased to be working with Netstream on their IPTV rollouts and we look forward to supporting them in their success.”
