Alert) Manufacturing Corporation announced today that it’s licensed UpdateLogic’s updating software UpdateTV for integration into its digital TVs.
The Sanyo TVs to be shipped later this year with come with UpdateTV built in, according to the company. After the integration of UpdateTV, Sanyo digital TVs will be able to automatically download firmware upgrades, company officials say. This will help Sanyo cut service costs and enhance customer satisfaction, they say.
In the era of HDTVs, TV software stacks are becoming increasingly advanced and complex and as a result vulnerable, according to the company. Traditionally, these software defects required a house call by the company’s service technicians. This would not only lead to extra costs for the company but also cause inconvenience to the consumer.
UpdateTV is equipped with a software agent that resides in the digital TV device, according to the company. It uses a national broadcast network to distribute the software data and content to TVs nationwide. With UpdateLogic’s UpdateTV technology and national broadcast network, automatically installing firmware upgrades has become a breeze.
“The UpdateTV technology represents an important addition to the Sanyo value proposition,” said Morio Matsudaira, SANYO’s vice president of engineering.
“UpdateLogic is very happy to partner with SANYO, one of the leaders in the television manufacturing business,” said Kurt Thielen, chief executive officer of UpdateLogic. “Sanyo’s adoption of this advanced, next-generation UpdateTV solution capability into their digital televisions demonstrates their commitment to product excellence and customer service, allowing them to hold a competitive advantage in the service and support of TVs, giving customers more confidence in their purchase.”
