Global Digital Broadcast (GDB) announced the appointment of Eyup Togan, a Turkish broadcaster and journalist, as head of its Turkish and Kurdish programming. GDB plans to expand its international IPTV

acquisitions with this move.
Togan has experience in international media and business development. He was sports anchorman for TGRT television and was instrumental in getting exclusive television rights for the FA cup and pre-champions league matches. He has contributed as presenter and co-producer for Turkish Radio, and has broadcast international events from London to ATV television besides having worked for continental newspapers and satellite television stations.
Togan has worked as freelance translator and captioning expert in different sectors like law, broadcasting and for the European Captioning Institute (ECI), Thomson (

“We believe that ‘local’ television should be available to anyone, anywhere in the world and regardless of their geographical location. There is a massive Turkish speaking population in the UK today and we feel that a man of Mr. Togan’s professional stature and expertise is ideal to head this sector of the market,” said Jim Deans, co-founder and managing director of GDB, in a statement.
GDB said there are nearly 325,000 Turkish-speaking people in the UK presently who can be categorized as Turkish Cypriots, Turkish speaking UK residents, Kurdish Turks and others who speak Turkish like Azeris and Turkomans.
“There is, without doubt, a huge market for Turkish content,” said Togan. “Previously, we had to limit ourselves to niche media; but IPTV (

Togan described the Turkish audience is one of the most perceptive and rapidly adapting populations in the world. He is optimistic that IPTV will appeal to expectations of these viewers.
The new package will include the Turkish channels Kanal D, Star TV, ATV, SAMANYOLU, FOX TV, Kanal 7, Show TV, TV8, Skyturk, National geographic, Hilal TV, and the TRT channels. News channels like NTV, CNN Turk, Haberturk, Kanal E, CNBC and TGRT News will also be included. More channels will be added as time goes on.
