By Calvin Azuri, TMCnet Contributing Editor

AT&T (News - Alert) U-verse TV customers will get access to the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China, without having to make the trip across the world thanks to a new development by AT&T Inc. The company has released AT&T Team USA On Demand, which is a new category of free Video On Demand (VOD) content that is exclusive to AT&T U-verse TV.

AT&T Team USA On Demand provides exclusive episodes and behind-the-scenes footage of U.S. Olympic Team hopefuls training for and competing in various sports, such as gymnastics, beach volleyball, track and field, BMX, tae kwon do, swimming, and diving.

Dan York (News - Alert), AT&T head of Programming acknowledged, “The Summer Olympics is one of the biggest events of the year, and we’re excited to give U-verse TV customers exclusive, front row access to their favorite Olympic sports and athletes. The behind-the-scenes preparation and stories bring U-verse TV customers closer to Team USA as they cheer the team on to the gold.”

U-verse TV customers now have access to the AT&T Tips and Training program. This is an original production designed to provide fans with access to sport-specific training tips from several major U.S. Olympic Team hopefuls. The AT&T Tips and Training program content is also available via the online AT&T blue room.

Episodes of “USA Gymnastics Behind the Team” will be showcased by AT&T Team USA On Demand, offering a behind-the-scenes look at the nation’s top gymnasts preparing to represent their country at the Olympics. A special “Behind the Team” series will include interviews with current and former athletes and coaches and video footage of training camps and competitions.

As the 2008 Olympic Games draw nearer, AT&T is expected to provide more exclusive Team USA content and footage to keep customers connected to the competing athletes.

As an official sponsor of the U.S. Olympic Team, AT&T provides much financial support, products, and services to the U.S. Olympic Committee. The company also serves as the official telecommunications services partner of the U.S. Olympic Team for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing in addition to serving as an official partner of several National Governing Bodies such as USA Track & Field, USA Gymnastics, USA Swimming, and USA Diving.
