Cartoon Network Stars Go Mobile with kajeet

By Anil Sharma, TMCnet Contributing Editor

kajeet, a cell phone service made for kids, and Turner Broadcasting System’s Cartoon Network announced today that they’ve agreed to bring mobile content from Cartoon Network to kajeet handsets.

Some of the top names in kids’ entertainment will now be available on the pay-as-you-go cell phone service, the companies said.

Drawing from the world’s largest cartoon library, the deal with Cartoon Network will bring select mobile content from the network’s original television shows, such as “Ben 10: Alien Force,” “Chowder,” “The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy” and “The Powerpuff Girls to kajeet handsets.

“As the only cell phone service focused on super-serving kids, it makes perfect sense for us to join forces with Cartoon Network,” said Daniel Neal, chief executive officer and founder of kajeet. “We think it’s important to offer kids mobile content that they love and which reflects their varied interests. Cartoon Network helps us with that goal.”

kajeet users will also be able to easily access the best in ringtones, wallpapers and games from Cartoon Network through their phone’s browser, the companies said. The Cartoon Network deal is the latest in a series of high-profile kid-centric content partnerships for kajeet. Since 2005, the company has signed deals with leading mobile content providers AOL (News - Alert), Electronic Arts, Glu Mobile, Gameloft, I-Play and Airborne Mobile.

“Mobile is an increasingly important platform to kids for entertainment purposes, and to their parents for content safety reasons,” said Ross Cox (News - Alert) Sr., director of advanced platforms, Cartoon Network New Media. “A partnership with kajeet, a cell phone service devoted specifically to kids, provides Cartoon Network with the perfect way to deliver our industry-leading content to our fans, wherever they may be, without parental worry.”

Cartoon Network, currently seen in more than 91 million U.S. homes and 160 countries around the world, is Turner Broadcasting System, Inc.’s ad-supported cable service offering the best in original, acquired and classic animated entertainment for kids and families, the companies said.

Cartoon Network shares its channel space with Adult Swim, a late-night destination showcasing original and acquired animation for young adults 18 to 34, the companies said.
