The ComedyNet channel will soon switch over to all high definition (HD) programming. The channel has been operating for a year, and during that time it achieved a subscriber base of over 15 million cable homes for its ad-supported, free on-demand programming.
Talks are underway with cable operators and satellite-to-home providers for lauching in HD.
“We have been very successful in fulfilling our primary goal of gaining carriage on the On Demand platform of cable systems, and we expect to be available to over 25 million cable homes by year end,” said Jocelyn Bayle, vice president of affiliate relations for ComedyNet. “We look to expand that distribution and explore all other modes of digital delivery including IPTV

, Broadband, etc. Response to our mix of stand-up, sketch and animation has been wonderful.”
Bayle added: "ComedyNet has also recently signed an agreement to bring ComedyNet programming to a major cell phone service provider, and we will be looking for strategic partners to develop strong marketing tie-ins to maximize this opportunity.
“On Demand programming affords us the opportunity to work closely with cable systems to create locally branded events and sponsorship/advertising opportunities... working with local ad sales forces and regional sponsorship campaigns helps us grow brand awareness from a grassroots basis,” said Mark Graff, cable entrepreneur and founder of ComedyNet. “We can pick our shots effectively and both the operator and ComedyNet get the benefits.”
Graff added: “With growing brand recognition, we look forward to delivering a full time High Definition (HD), channel to cable in the near future. With nearly 300 hours of programming already in our library, which tends to skew to a different demographic profile than our competitor, we strongly believe that all Comedy is not Central.”
This New York City-based company recently signed a letter of intent to merge with Anywhere MD, Inc., to accelerating its business plans. It is also actively looking for joint ventures for the development, production and distribution of new programming.
