LIN TV Corp., a local television and digital media company, and Charter Communications, Inc. announced today that they’ve reached an agreement for the retransmission of LIN TV’s broadcast television stations’ analog and digital signals.
Thirteen LIN TV-owned and operated stations currently are carried by Charter in the following markets: Grand Rapids; Green Bay; Hartford-New Haven; Norfolk; Springfield, Massachusetts; Dayton; Providence; and Toledo.
“We are extremely pleased to have reached a fair market agreement with Charter,” said Gregory M. Schmidt, LIN TV’s executive vice president digital media. “We look forward to broadening and deepening this relationship as we move together into the digital future.”
LIN TV Corp., along with its subsidiaries, is a local television and digital media company, owning and/or operating 29 television stations in 17 U.S. markets, all of which are affiliated with a national broadcast network, company officials say.
LIN TV’s stations deliver important local news and community stories, along with top-rated sports and entertainment programming, to 9 percent of U.S. television homes, reaching an average of 10 million households per week, they say.
LIN TV officials describe the company as a major player in the convergence of local broadcast television and the Internet through its television station Web sites and a growing number of local online innovations that reach 15 percent of U.S. broadband households.
“We are pleased to have signed this agreement with LIN TV for the benefit of our customers. In addition, we look forward to expanding our high definition programming with LIN TV stations in many of these communities,” said Ted Schremp, executive vice president and chief marketing officer for Charter.
Charter Communications, Inc. is a broadband communications company. Charter officials say the company provides a range of advanced broadband services, including advanced Charter Digital video entertainment programming, Charter High-Speed Internet access service, and Charter Telephone services.
Charter Business similarly provides scalable, tailored and cost-effective broadband communications solutions to business organizations, such as business-to-business Internet access, data networking, video and music entertainment services and business telephone, according to the company.
