Nokia Siemens Wins Contract from Indosat

By Narayan Bhat, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Telecommunications equipment vendor Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) has won a deal with Indonesian telecom operator Indosat (News - Alert) to implement its 3G Services Delivery Platform (SDP).

NSN’s 3G platform will allow Indosat to steer its rich content, which its partners are generating, to its customers.

The solution is comprised of content management, a video gateway, a video portal, video streaming, messaging gateway platform, charging and partner management. Under the contract, NSN will integrate the platform into Indosat’s network and provide maintenance and competence development and training services to the customer.

Combined with the open standards-based solution, it is designed to enable Indosat to bring to market different types of rich content from their content partners. In addition to content management, the platform may even enable Indosat to migrate their existing 2G content providers by creating a 2G and 3G service delivery platform for the subscribers.

The project is slated to be ready for launch in the first quarter of 2008.

Indosat has said it may also market its own brand of 3G content to its customers as well as partners.

“Providing our customers with the best content services and strengthening our relationship with content provider partners are the keys to our value added services. We believe Nokia (News - Alert) Siemens Networks service delivery framework will address the increasing demands of our customers and partners,” said Johnny Swandi Sjam, President Director, Indosat.

“The Framework allows Indosat consumers to download games, music and video, enjoy video streaming and live TV over 3G. The system also provides an advanced mobile storefront experience by having the preview and subscription options to select their favorite content. The framework is also market proven for the interoperability with various other networks,” also said Arjun Trivedi, Head of Nokia Siemens (News - Alert) Networks, Indonesia.
