HOT, one of Israel’s largest pay-TV and interactive services providers, is using the solution to make money and expand its cable video service to include high-definition (HD) television.
HOT officials say the company is using Harmonic’s DiviCom Electra 7000 HD MPEG-4 AVC (H.264) encoders and Broadcast Network Gateway (

Harmonic officials said that statistical multiplexing is performed by the ProStream 1000 stream processing platform with DiviTrackMX at the IP

headend, as well as DiviTrackIP for HOT’s HD service. NMX Digital Service Manager is used to monitor and control the enhanced video service. HOT also uses Harmonic’s HFC broadband access solutions for efficient transport across the RF network, according to the company.
According to Meidad Katz, vice president of engineering and chief technical officer at HOT, the company was searching for best-in-class HD video quality, the ability to multiplex, scramble and re-encode content within a single platform and a broad portfolio of products advanced enough to enable their continued migration to an all-IP infrastructure. Harmonic’s digital video technologies met all of these needs, Katz said.
Nimrod Ben-Natan, vice president of Solutions and Strategy at Harmonic, said that HOT is building one of the world’s most technically advanced digital video networks.
Harmonic already has a successful working relationship with HOT and the company’s video processing, edge and access products are extensively deployed throughout their network, Ben Natan said.
By transitioning to an IP-based architecture, HOT is able to further consolidate its operations and realize significant operational efficiencies while maintaining extremely high quality of service

, he said.
“HOT’s world-class HD service and migration to an all-IP infrastructure continues their long-standing tradition of delivering the most advanced digital video, voice, and data services available,” Ben-Natan said.
