Aiming to deploy fiber channel storage with new edge storage solutions, Astute Networks, Inc., a provider of bladed storage solutions, today announced the availability of what company officials are calling the industry’s first edge storage products.
Deploying new content and services to the edge of the network quickly, reliably and economically, Astute officials say their products are designed to help telecom, military and media customers. To meet new demands and solve the complexities of delivering voice, video and data to the edge of network, the company says it’s introduced its “Caspian R1100 Edge Storage Blade” and “Caspian E1112 RTM Storage Blade.”
Upgrading storage for telecom central offices and mobile switching centers, the Caspian R1100 and E1112 reduce the acquisition costs and total cost of ownership

of storage, according to the company. The Caspian R1100 and E1112 provide a combination of high performance, high reliability, deployment simplicity and blade density, company officials say. As carriers deploy storage-intensive applications such as IPTV

, IMS, and VoD into their IP networks, the benefits will be of prime importance to these carriers, they say.
Experts believe that one of the biggest trends affecting the telecom market in 2008 is the expansion of video and data services driving consolidation to all IP

networks. As a result, an increasing number of video and services will move towards the edge of the network as the importance of open, reliable and easy to deploy storage and servers will be critical to the success, experts say.
The Caspian R1100 and E1112 are the first 10Gb iSCSI bladed storage products that provide built-in high performance, carrier grade reliability, power and cooling efficiencies, deployment simplicities and rack density, all integrated into one ATCA chassis, according to the company.
“Until today, carriers wanting to deploy storage closer to the consumer had to choose complex, proprietary configurations of fiber channel storage which carry higher acquisition and total lifecycle costs,” stated Clark Masters, chief executive officer and president of Astute Networks. “Looking to expand their revenue base and take advantage of the explosion in the interactive and personalized content market, the carriers now have open systems, ATCA solution with the availability of the ‘Caspian Family of Edge Storage Blades.’ We’re excited about bringing these products to market with our best in class partners and look forward to making ‘Edge Storage’ made simple a reality for customers worldwide.”
