Netmax.tv officials said that they selected Widevine to ensure secure multiplatform distribution, and also to meet the content protection standards of Hollywood and Bollywood content studios.
Officials said that their company’s vision is to “securely” distribute its vast library of licensed content to any geo-authorized consumers with connected personal computing devices.
Saying it is important to provide “world class content protection” while reaching as many subscribers as possible with a cross-platform offering, Jag Sandhu, chief technical officer at Netmax Media, said, “Widevine is the only content protection vendor that met our specific criteria.”
He added, “We look forward to using the Widevine platform to provide a secure entertainment experience regardless of how, when or with what device Netmax.tv customers choose to connect.”
“Netmax.tv provides a highly sought digital distribution service without boundaries or traditional DRM limitations, which enables customers to freely and securely consume premium content,” said John Petrocelli, vice president of business development at Widevine.
He also said that Widevine is pleased to enable Netmax.tv to meet studio requirements regardless of the consumer platform they choose to distribute their content.
Netmax.tv officials said that they are all set to launch with a library of over 30,000 titles and expects to double that volume by the end of 2009. In the near future, the company plans to extend service delivery to traditional set top boxes and consumer devices as part of its in-home entertainment strategy.
Widevine is a provider of multiformat, multiplatform DRM and digital copy protection solutions. Currently, the company provides content protection to more than 130 managed network operators worldwide, reportedly, running more than 50 different models of set top boxes, personal video recorders, portable media players and PCs.
Earlier this month, Widevine and Incited Media, an online video and streaming production services company, announced a technology partnership that bundles Widevine’s content protection as part of Incited Media’s cross-platform live streaming service.
