The next-generation HD VuNow Internet TV platform from Verismo Networks allows Multi System Operators (MSOs), Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and Telcos to bring linear channels combined with value-added Internet applications over the Internet to their subscribers.
Verismo (News - Alert) Networks notes that Internet as a distribution method allows service providers to rapidly expand their existing footprint and expand to new global markets without making heavy expenditure in their infrastructure.
The VuNow Internet TV platform also has the ability to bring social networking applications like Twitter to the television. Users can also access personal media over the home network or by connecting a USB drive.
The platform can also support Digital Rights Management (DRM), Electronic Program Guides (EPG) and provide VoIP, Internet access with a built-in broadband router, and whole-house DVR.
Content providers can leverage this Internet TV platform to stream their content directly to the TV instead of the PC. This gives them an opportunity to stream special interest content in a range of markets such as higher education, personal growth, faith based outreach, corporate training, or government.
“This is truly a game changer. We are offering a solution that enables service providers to quickly expand their reach globally, bringing them unprecedented revenue opportunities with minimal investment,” said Dhaval Ajmera, executive vice president of Marketing and Sales at Verismo Networks, in a press release. “The fully customizable solution allows fast time to market with ‘cool’ new internet applications that offer unparalleled opportunities for differentiation.”
In a related news, New Zealand based Orcon selected Alcatel-Lucent (News - Alert) to improve the delivery and experience of Internet-based video to its customers.
