IPTV Platform Verismo Poised for Growth, Further Deployment

By Ed Silverstein, TMCnet Contributor

With the influx of $17 million in financing, Verismo (News - Alert), an IPTV platform, is poised for additional growth as greater numbers of consumers and carriers are expected to use the cutting edge technology.

Verismo said it will use the additional investment to accelerate company growth and expand operations as it delivers its technology to customers and channel partners worldwide.

This money will help the company grow out its sales and marketing forces, getting the word out about the product and further deploy globally, the company explains.

The next-generation, high-definition VuNow Internet TV platform allows Multi System Operators (MSOs), Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and telcos the ability to deliver traditional linear channels combined with value-added Internet services such as VoIP and social networking applications over the Internet to their existing subscribers, the company said.

There is competition in the industry. True, the space is crowded – and Google (News - Alert) has the best play. But Verismo is not at all like Google, in that they're offering their technology not the programming, the company explains.

With other players in this space, such as Google, Apple (News - Alert) and Netflix, the breadth and depth of service is simply not there, says the company. Verismo can change the programming in the blink of an eye and tailor it to a specific MSO/telco's desire. Company officials note that Apple's model for TV is simply flawed – with a $1 per episode fee? Who is going to pay $1 to watch 30 Rock? In addition, this product helps consumers by giving them much more choice.

Already deployed worldwide, Verismo’s platform uses the Internet as a distribution method, allowing service providers to expand their existing footprint and reach new global markets with minimal investment in their infrastructure.

For example, say you are an MSO or telco within the Philadelphia market. Now you want to get into the Dallas market. Without infrastructure, you're going to face problems. But with Verismo, you can offer the same service you do in Philadelphia to the Dallas market using Dallas' MSOs Internet connection.

It also opens up a whole new world of vertical markets from ethnic programming (such as Greek TV, Persian channels, Turkish TV) to universities offering distance learning.

In five years the company predicts it will be deployed with a large carrier in the United States. Currently, Verismo’s products and services have been deployed by Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) in 92 countries with the average user watching over 3 hours per day.
