Billion Introduces IPTV-Ready Router

By Deepika Mala, TMCnet Contributor

Global networking device company Billion has introduced its IPTV-ready router, the BiPAC 7700N, for $89.95. The router includes Wireless N and ADSL2+ performance and offers efficient wireless coverage with its built-in 802.11n Access Point (News - Alert).

The newly launched BiPAC 7700N also provides the ability to automatically adopt an optimal connection to deliver smooth, constant signal reception, even where obstacles are present. Data rates as fast as 300 megabits per second is supported by Wireless N coverage. It also delivers as much as three times the wireless coverage of 802.11b/g.

To expand the wireless network without needing external wires or cables, the BiPAC 7700N has a built-in Wireless Distribution System repeater function. The device also has an integrated four-port 10/100Mbps Ethernet switch.

Internet access against hacker attacks is protected by the 7700N’s robust firewall security. Intelligent streaming for high-definition video or multiple concurrent applications such as music downloads, online gaming, video streaming and file sharing is enabled by the support for Quality of Service and VLAN.

Full control of data traffic is provided by quality of service. This enables the router to prioritize important data like gaming packets, VoIP calls or IPTV streaming content, especially when there’s heavy Internet traffic. For wide bandwidth applications such as IPTV (News - Alert), video on demand or online gaming without consuming bandwidth, VLAN support establishes reliable high-speed transmissions.

Through the national reseller network of Billion’s exclusive Australian distributor, PCRange, the Billion BiPAC 7700N will be available this month.

In a press release, PCRange general manager Stewart Goodier said the Billion BiPAC 7700N was the company’s most competitively priced ADSL router that used the popular Broadcom (News - Alert) chipset. “We’re expecting this to be a hot seller because it’s a tremendous value package for less than $90”.

In related news, BroadLight announced recently that its BL23500 GPON processor family was selected by Billion Electric for its new product development of the BiPAC 9300 GPON gateway.
