D-Link, a provider of connectivity solutions for home, small businesses, mid- to large-sized enterprise environments and service providers, has jointly announced with Boxee, Inc., a provider of solutions that enable delivery of enhanced video content to TV through the Internet, that the Boxee (News - Alert) Box solution by D-Link will now support Netflix in Canada.
Connecting a Boxee device to the TV set, a user can watch any TV show from the Internet, movies from various services such as Netflix, VUDU, MUBI and OpenFilm; and also access all Internet content as well. The solutions by Boxee are capable of incorporating video recommendations from users’ friends on Facebook (News - Alert) and Twitter to their TV sets.
Users need only a TV with an HDMI input and an Internet connection to watch the video content of their choice. The Boxee Box is different from other set-top devices as it features a full web browser and supports full HD streaming from the Internet. Additionally, it is compatible with all the well known media file formats and offers connectivity with built-in social networking that brings personal recommendations from friends.
“D-link is committed to delivering today’s connected families a complete home entertainment hub with the latest content, connectivity, sharing, and viewing options for high-quality viewing experiences at home,” commented Lou Reda, vice president and general manager of the consumer division at D-Link (News - Alert) Canada. “Netflix support in Canada takes the Boxee Box by D-Link Web-to-TV experience to a new level, significantly expanding the range of content accessible to consumers.”
“With the addition of Netflix in Canada, the Boxee Box by D-Link has become a powerful new way to bring mainstream, indie, and award-winning films into your living room,” said Andrew Kippen, vice president of marketing at Boxee. “We’re able to show people what TV can be... and they’re telling us they’ll never go back.”
Equipped with a SD card slot, the Boxee Box features two USB ports, optical digital audio, HDMI output, 802.11n wireless and an Ethernet port for connectivity flexibility. Along with the device, users also get a double-sided remote that includes an integrated QWERTY keyboard and simple browsing interface.
In January 2011, Boxee Box by D-Link had been
featured on a segment of CBS’ daytime talk show ‘The Talk’. During the show, the device was given to everyone in the audience to let them have a feel of how it aggregates the best Internet content and locally stored media into an intuitive on-screen interface allowing consumers to enjoy movies, TV shows, clips, photos and more from the Internet on a TV.
