Tivus Successfully Deploys COD Systems at Host Hotels & Resorts

By Carolyn J Dawson, TMCnet Contributor

Tivus, a leading technology entertainment services provider of internet-based TV and Cable programming, interactive game content, and goods and services to the hotel and hospitality industry, has recently announced the successful deployment of its new Internet-based, in-room content-on-demand (COD) systems at Host Hotels & Resorts, Inc. Host Hotels & Resorts is based in downtown Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and has 1408 rooms. Tivus has implemented its COD systems in more than 300 rooms at the Host Hotels & Resorts property.

In a release, Shiva Prakash, president and CEO of Tivus said that, "With more than 300 rooms now live and experiencing regular guest traffic, Tivus' pure IP-based COD IPTV system has already been enjoyed by thousands of hotel guests. It is important to understand Tivus' business model relies on ad-revenue, not video-on-demand. To illustrate how such a model works, we have provided an example. This milestone represents one-quarter of the property's total room count. As our installation technicians are working in tandem with the hotel's remodelling crews, we currently still expect completion in late summer."

Tivus, a technology entertainment services provider, offers internet-based TV and Cable programming, interactive game content, and goods and services to the hotel and hospitality industry. Tivus utilizes onsite hardware and software as well as ultra-modern flat screen televisions, to enable hotel guests to access the Internet through secure broadband connectivity with the help of a proprietary Network Operations Center (NOC (News - Alert)). The NOC allows Tivus to uniquely monitor, protect and track each customer transaction. Tivus’ unique HD IPTV system offers a complete entertainment solution for guests as well as helps the hotel to generate previously untapped income for the hotel through ad-revenue sharing such as commercial spots, advertisements of local tourist services, and hotel promotions.

Randall Francis, chief technology officer at Tivus said that, "Our IP-based 'backbone' has been performing well. Due to the efficiency of our IP-based high-definition content distribution, it ensures an enjoyable, uninterrupted in-room entertainment experience."

Following its recent deployment of HD IPTV (News - Alert) system at Host Hotels & Resorts, Tivus had entered into a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to deploy its new Internet-based, in-room content-on-demand (COD) systems in certain Host Hotels & Resorts, Inc. properties, covering 300 rooms. Hotels will no longer be dependent on the declining pay-per-view movie sales.
