UTStarcom Unveils MS 3005 Streaming Media Storage Unit and Blade Server

By Rajani Baburajan, TMCnet Contributor

UTStarcom Holdings, a provider of interactive, IP-based network solutions in iDTV, IPTV (News - Alert), Internet TV and broadband for cable and telecom operators, announced the launch of its MS 3005 streaming media storage unit and blade server.

The main features of MS 3005 server include expanded storage capabilities and faster processing capacity.

Leveraging the MS 3005 server, operators of IPTV, iDTV and Internet TV can stream large amounts of high definition content. They can offer added-value services including video-on-demand and expanded recording capabilities. The new product enables operators to manage and store different types of media data collected from TV, Mobile, PC and other digital media.

MS 3005 server delivers more energy efficiency compared to its predecessor. It will be cost effective for the operators. While it offers cost-savings in energy and maintenance, the improved technology and high storage density also reduce processing, storage and spare-parts costs, according to a press statement.

UTStarcom’s MS 3005 blade server offers scalability to operators, when combined with the new MC6098B high-definition set-top box. It has the capability to enhance the subscriber experience and improve telecom and cable operators' service capabilities through UTStarcom's (News - Alert) integrated Internet TV solution.

Recently, UTStarcom announced it received a final acceptance certificate on a $10 million contract of next generation core telecoms network (NGN) from Jersey Telecom, a telecom services provider in the British Channel Islands. UTStarcom and JT have been working together since 2008 to implement a new core infrastructure for JT and its affiliated companies.

UTStarcom supplies JT's NGN infrastructure, which coupled with JT's Gigabit Isles fiber, is used in the home roll-out program to enable every household and business in Jersey to have fiber into their premises within approximately five years.
