Celeno Communications (News - Alert), a provider of semiconductors for multimedia Wi-Fi home networking applications, announced that its CL1820 Wi-Fi chip and OptimizAIR technology has been selected by Deutsche Telekom (News - Alert), provider of integrated telecommunications solutions, to help drive the Deutsche Speedport W 102 Bridge.

Deutsche Telekom's Speedport W 102 Bridge will deliver the entire “Entertain” IPTV (News - Alert) service package wirelessly to consumers in Germany. Entertain features 140 TV channels, 15,000 titles, a range of interactive applications, and 2,500 national, and international radio stations. By delivering Entertain via the Speedport W 102 Bridge, Deutsche Telekom will make it possible for German consumers to access the Entertain IPTV service over multiple set-top boxes (STBs). Consumers will also be able to wirelessly receive content and also wirelessly share multi-room digital video recorder (DVR) content.

The Speedport W 102 Bridge supports a user-friendly architecture so users can install their media receiver DVR easily. And because the system delivers wirelessly, users have the option of positioning their STBs and TVs at a location of their choice and can view time-shifted content which has been recorded over a master DVR via any STB in the house. The Speedport W 102 Bridge can support up to four video adapters in a home network.

Key highlights of the CL1820 Wi-Fi chip and OptimizerAIR Technology include a digital transmit Beamforming MIMO which effectively extends reach, a scheduler access capable of providing carrier-grade quality of service (QoS) for both video and data clients, while the mesh networking functionality supports direct station-to-station streaming so users can enjoy DVR content anywhere. The technology also supports real-time interference detection as well as smooth radio-channel hopping and offers carrier-grade reliability and software upgrade while the uPNP TR-069 and TR-98 protocol suite enables carrier-grade remote management.

In a release, Ulrich Grote, Vice President Terminal management Fixed Line, Deutsche Telekom, said, “Celeno’s optimized Wi-Fi technology far exceeds that of conventional Wi-Fi, which is merely designed for internet surfing. Celeno’s solution not only allows for flawless HD video streaming, it also enables multi-room DVR with the high quality of experience our consumers demand.”
