Celeno Communications (News - Alert), a provider of semiconductors for multimedia Wi-Fi home networking applications, announced that iiNet, the second largest DSL broadband provider in Australia, will be using Celeno-enabled Wi-Fi Ethernet bridges.
Celeno supplies Wi-Fi chips for HD multimedia and entertainment home networking applications. Home gateways, multi-room DVRs and media servers are powered by Celeno’s system-on-chip (SoC). Its OptimizAIR technology will distribute multiple and simultaneous HD video streams to standard set-top boxes, PCs, television sets and other Wi-Fi-enabled consumer devices.
Stephen Harley, iiNet’s Chief Product Officer, said in a release, “With Celeno’s field-proven Wi-Fi technology, we are able to offer our customers seamless connection between their iiNet broadband and our IPTV (News
- Alert) service. Our customers don’t want to worry about the cost of new wiring, and this robust, inexpensive wireless bridge has allowed us to speed up the expansion rate of our IPTV services.”
According to iiNET sources, the Ethernet bridges will be used to support wireless delivery of its expanding IPTV services, including Video on Demand (VoD) and other interactive video applications.
Celeno will be making forays into the Australian market with iiNet and looks forward to widening its technology reach across a range of wireless solutions. These solutions are most suitable for various market sectors including cable, satellite and also IPTV with iiNet.
It has been revealed that IPTV popularity is gaining ground across the globe including in Australia. Service providers must meet and optimize video quality delivery for subscribers to retain their market. The Celeno-powered bridges are capable of seamlessly and reliably streaming video over the Wi-Fi spectrum to provide optimum viewing experience at locations within the home.
Officials explained that the Celeno-enabled wireless bridge links the set-top box to the modem over a wireless connection. This eliminates the need for expensive rewiring and the laying of network cables at home. Wireless video becomes a reality within minutes owing to the fast, plug-and-play installation and set-up.
Gilad Rozen, CEO of Celeno, said, “With the iiNet implementation, Celeno’s technology continues to be the most widely-adopted method for top-tier service providers to distribute wireless in-home video to their subscribers.”
“It is clear that Celeno’s video grade Wi-Fi is consistently being equated with the highest quality user experience across a large number of screens in a home,” Rozen added.
Officials added that iiNet’s fetchtv delivers more than 30 free movies a month on demand, VoD, PVR with room for 550+ hours of recorded content and a wide selection of TV channels on free-to-air channels besides several other options.
