Finland's Digita Oy Selects Envivio Encoding Platform

has reportedly announced that its Mobile Series video encoding platform has been selected and installed by Digita Oy.

 

Digita Oy, which is owned by France’s TDF (News - Alert), is Finland based distributor of radio and television services.

 

Envivio (News - Alert) officials said that the company’s platform is being put to immediate use to deliver ten channels of high quality, DVB-H encoded, free-to-air and pay-tv mobile television to be offered by mobile operators in Finland’s top markets. Plans are afoot to expand the platform with additional channels.

 

“Encoding may be just one of several components required to deliver a mobile television service,” said Marianne Hynninen, vice president, mobile TV with Digita Oy, in a statement.

 

But Hynninen said it plays a critically important role in ensuring that the service delivers the superior quality of experience that will attract and retain subscribers. She said that the timetable for building the headend and launching the service was very short—less than 60 days.

 

Hynninen said that having access to Envivio’s professional services team with its broad mobile TV experience, as well as Envivio’s proven success at integrating with the network components the company has in place enabled the company to complete the deployment on schedule.

 

‘“It turns out that our trust was well placed,” she said.

 

The Digita MobileTV service currently provides two TV channels and three visual radio channels. Negotiations are underway to get more content to the DVB-H network.

 

“Evidence from around the world shows that it is the operators who have focused on service quality when building their headends who have enjoyed the most success with their mobile TV services,” said Richard Stanfield, chief operating officer with Envivio in a statement.

 

Stanfield said that the Digita team’s attention to these details in planning their DVB-H system provides a perfect blueprint for the proper way to build such a system.
