VeriSilicon Holdings Co. Ltd. (VeriSilicon), a ASIC design foundry and custom SoC solutions provider, and On2 Technologies (News - Alert) Finland Oy (On2 Finland) have announced a wide-ranging partnership that adds the multi-format video encode/decode solutions from On2 Finland to VeriSilicon (News - Alert)'s expanding, system level star IP portfolio.
Officials with VeriSilicon said that the agreement gives the company access to On2 Finland's silicon proven IP, with support for a variety of video formats such as Real Video (RV), Divx, VP6, VP7, VP8 and AVS (News - Alert), for customer SoC designs targeting mobile and home entertainment consumer applications with varied market requirements.
"By adding On2 Finland IP, VeriSilicon expands its SoC platform capability to service HD audio/video applications such as Blu-ray DVD Players, advanced Set-top Boxes, Mobile Internet Devices, and automobile infotainment devices with audio, video and image processing requirements", said Wayne Dai, president and CEO of VeriSilicon, in a statement.
Dai said that VeriSilicon has already won a number of customer projects that combine the company's low power, HD 7.1 channel audio core and On2 Finland's 1080p video core and the company is excited to formalize its partnership with On2 Finland so that more of world-wide customers can benefit from this strategic partnership.
He said that VeriSilicon strives to be a world class design foundry with a full range of SoC capabilities to serve its worldwide customer base.
"Our advanced, flexible SoC platforms include industry leading ZSP family of DSP cores (acquired from LSI Logic), standard processor cores like ARM (News - Alert), PowerPC, low power analog IP and application software," said Dai.
Jani Huoponen, general manager of On2 Technologies Finland said that the company is pleased to have VeriSilicon as its partner, helping to deliver IP into the latest multimedia devices both in China and worldwide.
"Combining VeriSilicon's wide array of audio IPs, with our configurable video IP in VeriSilicon's turnkey SoCs, will meet the ever growing market demand for HD enabled multimedia chipsets," said Huoponen.
He said that On2 Finland's IP for low powered, high performance video enabled devices is already widely deployed with over 40 semiconductor licensees today.
"Through the partnership with VeriSilicon we are able to proliferate our multi-format codec IP even further, which includes support for the newest and most exciting format of all - VP8," said Huoponen.
