Comtrend Unveils BeamLink Wireless Video Adapter to Enable HD-IPTV at Home

By Shamila Janakiraman, TMCnet Contributor

Comtrend (News - Alert) Corporation, a supplier of advanced networking solutions, announced the introduction of BeamLink Wireless Video Adapter which serves as a carrier-grade Wi-Fi based HD access point (AP).

The BeamLink WAP-5834 makes use of a new Celeno chipset and is a HD access point that can distribute multiple high-definition IP video streams or enable HD-IPTV (News - Alert) within the home, said company sources.

The device is available to service providers in North America. It is powered by the new Celeno CL1820 802.11n high performance chipset that is capable of providing up to 120 Mbps video throughput with zero packet error rates. The BeamLink Wireless Video Adapter supports up to four different concurrent HD streams and features carrier-grade capabilities.

BeamLink provides a high-quality, HD IPTV video experience along with whole home networking coverage without dead spots. It offers cost-effective multi-client scalability for service providers besides eliminating the need for installing new cabling throughout the home. The self-installation process involves the connection of one BeamLink device to the user’s gateway and one to the IP set top box which can go up to four.

The installation will result in an IPTV home network that allows subscribers to enjoy simple connectivity of multiple HD video sources including IPTV, Video-on-Demand, stored content on DVR that can be shared between multiple TVs in the home.

In a statement, John Castreje, general manager, Comtrend said, “The success of the original BeamLink adapter is now closely followed by an enhanced product that provides even higher throughput to support the demand of today’s multimedia home.”

“The new BeamLink WAP-5834 continues to give exceptional coverage for HD video streams throughout the entire home and is the perfect fit for service providers looking for a future-proof, single-box solution,” Castreje added.

Lior Weiss, Celeno’s vice president of marketing, emphasized the need for service providers to offer multi-room DVR and Video-on-Demand in order to deliver a personalized viewing experience to consumers.

“We’re delighted that Comtrend selected Celeno’s second-generation chipset for the distribution of multimedia and entertainment content in the home with full support for the latest applications in IPTV and best-in-class performance. Wi-Fi allows for fast, flexible and cost-effective implementations,” Weiss added.

Leveraging the OptimizAIR technology, with wide 5GHz spectrum and special interference immunity technologies BeamLink is allowing the selection of available channels on the fly. Company sources added that up to four TV screens can receive different and concurrent HD streams with optimum service, consistently and independently.

The delivery does not depend on the infrastructure type or quality of the existing wires in the home. Also the Beam Forming MIMO technology reduces radiated energy in the home as well as in neighboring apartments.
