Entone, a provider of Hybrid TV and Connected Home solutions, announced the launch and availability of its WebVOD Hybrid TV solution for IPTV service operators.
The WebVOD application launched by the Entone (News - Alert) is integrated with leading middleware solutions to enhance the IPTV services significantly. The solution does not demand any modifications to the middleware and the WebVOD application can be downloaded to the subscribers’ set-top boxes or “STBs.”
According to company officials, the Hybrid TV services combine the best of broadcast television and over the top or “OTT” media services, which were not available previously through separate store-bought devices, the company said.
“From our extensive research on OTT, the hybrid OTT model is one that we expect to be very successful,” Mike Galli, senior analyst at MRG, said.
“The fact that Entone's WebVOD application can work with already deployed IPTV (News - Alert) STBs makes this solution ideal for service providers wanting to add VOD to their service portfolio,” Galli added.
WebVOD allows video service operators to present video-on-demand or “VOD” services over the Internet. This service allows a vast selection of online movie libraries including thousands of HD titles for the consumers.
Entone's WebVOD solution enables Web media services like VUDU. In 2009 Entone and VUDU announced partnership to enable the accessibility of the VUDU Movies and VUDU Apps via Entone devices.
More than 3,000 HD movie titles are included in the VUDU Movies services. This makes it the world's largest catalog of HD titles. The VUDU Apps service includes a vast array of Web-based media services ranging from YouTube for online videos, Pandora (News - Alert) for online music, Flickr for online photo sharing, Facebook for social media, and hundreds of other compelling applications delivered to the TV as stated by the company officials.
Entone's WebVOD application is currently being deployed and trialed by numerous video service operators. The Entone WebVOD application and related services are immediately available in all U.S. markets.
