The Adobe Flash Lite Software, the Flash Player for mobile phones and devices will soon feature in the system-on-chip (SoC) solutions of Sigma Designs. Sigma has revealed its plan to integrate Adobe Flash platform into consumer electronics.

Sigma Designs (News - Alert) is a provider of highly integrated SoC solutions that are used to deliver multimedia entertainment throughout the home. Sigma’s SoC solutions combine its semiconductors and software and is a critical component of multiple high-growths, consumer applications that process digital video and audio content, including Internet Protocol TV (IPTV (News - Alert)), high definition DVD players, High Definition TVs (HDTVs), and portable media players.

With this move the company hopes to connect the gap between TV and Web Convergence (News - Alert) and make advanced digital television and web services possible across CE devices.

“The number of home devices that allow access to web content has proliferated over the past couple of years. Today, consumers are using these devices to interact and view the Web on the same television they watch their favorite shows on,” said Ken Lowe, vice president of strategic marketing, Sigma Designs. “Our collaboration with Adobe represents the ongoing convergence of Web and TV that will allow consumers to access powerful feature-rich, interactive content anywhere they want to, as Adobe Flash is the leading video format on the web today.”

According to the company, Adobe Flash Lite software will soon be available with Sigma silicon solutions for consumer electronics in order to bring the richest, most engaging interactive experiences and services over high definition televisions, IPTV and cable-IP set-top boxes, Blu-ray players and digital media adapters. Officials add that it will also bring rich web content and Adobe Flash based applications to the digital home market, and ultimately make the TV the main hub for entertainment and content services.

According to Danny Winokur, the senior director for Business Development for the Flash Platform at Adobe, Sigma pioneered in developing high end media processors for high definition markets such as Blu-ray, IPTV set top boxes, and HDTVs. Sigma’s solutions will have the capabilities of both the rich graphical effects of the Adobe Flash platform and the advanced media features of HD processors.
