Yap Launches Spanish Language Voice Mail to Text Service

Yap (News - Alert), which pioneered the world's first high accuracy, fully automated cloud-based speech recognition platform has extended its platform to enable MetroPCS Spanish customers to read Spanish voicemail messages.
In its initial launch, Yap's language identification technology platform was used to identify the English language and its U.S. English language Voice Mail to Text service was launched in April 2010.
With Spanish being the primary language spoken by more than a third of the population in California and Texas and more than 35 million people in the United States, Yap decided that it was high time to use its speech recognition technology to advantage.
It was then that it powered MetroPCS’ Spanish language Voice Mail to Text service and enabled millions of MetroPCS customers to conveniently read Spanish voicemail messages.
“Spanish language support is a natural evolution for Yap,” said Marcello Typrin, vice president of products, Yap in a press release. “There is a tremendous market opportunity for transcribing Spanish voicemails into text, and Yap’s platform provides the necessary high accuracy and fast turn-around time.”
In addition to this, the service automatically identifies whether the voicemail is in English or Spanish and transcribes it accordingly.
Voicemail-to-text transcription has an advantage over the traditional voicemail services as it can be viewed even in meetings. The details of the message can be viewed any time unlike the traditional voicemail where message details have to be noted down.
The Company's simple, scalable and cost effective approach to implementing advanced speech transcription services is finding favor with service providers and enterprise communications and use Yap's Speech Cloud to quickly deploy innovative applications such as Voicemail-to-text, mobile messaging, conference call transcription and call mining.
Voice Mail to Text is available today to all of MetroPCS’s 8.9 million customers and is offered at no cost for select plans. Go to metropcs.com/plans for details.
