LG Incorporates Voice Activation for IVR-Like Video Gaming
By Allison Boccamazzo, TMCnet Web Editor
If you’ve ever been big on gaming, you know that the only time you ever “talk” to your TV is either when you’re screaming at it out of frustration – or worse. The extent to which we’ve been able to interact with our video games via speech technology has been extremely limited, agrees this recent Plum Voice blog.
Think to way back in the day before any speech technology had been developed; before interactive voice response (IVR) systems or voice-controlled devices, people had to rely on buttons and keyboard to communicate with their technology. This in itself was not so much of a hardship as it was leaving room for future growth, which is exactly what happened, and continues to happen, in new ground-breaking developments made every day.
One of those developments now incorporates what the majority of tweens and teens stay up late to play and are utterly fixated with – video games.
“With the exception of live-action online multi-player games where you talk to other online players, we haven’t really ever been able to talk to our games (at least using our voices - typing answers into the console using your controller has been around for some time for different purposes, but that’s a whole different kind of communication),” says Plum.
Apparently this is no longer so, as LG will soon be offering a new gaming portal called Game World, where games through users’ Smart TV app store will be compatible with LG’s Magic Remote accessory, which enables users’ voice and gesture control. The company is launching this new voice-enabled gaming system next month in ‘global markets,’ but is being rumored to hit the market even sooner.
Now you can play your favorite games racing characters or fighting sworn enemies or solving intricate puzzles – all by just saying so.
