The Cloud Security Alliance Announces Formation of Legal Information Center

By Nathesh, TMCnet Contributor

The Cloud Security Alliance, a not-for-profit organization that promotes best practices for providing security assurance within cloud computing, stated that the newly launched Legal Information Center (CLIC) is an online resource that can help users sort out and fix various complicated legal issues associated with cloud computing.

Jim Reavis, executive director of the CSA exclaimed, “Any organization that is leveraging the cloud is now subject to a wide range of new and continuously changing regulatory compliance issues. These issues include everything from corporate data retention policies to privacy protections for citizens. Confusion about legal issues is one of the biggest issues facing both cloud providers and cloud customers. The CLIC will serve an important role in helping our member organizations not only ensure they remain in compliance with international laws but can help shape those laws as well.”

CSA explained that the Legal Information Center is an expert-led community resource for global legal issues affecting cloud computing, with a mission to provide unbiased information about the applicability of existing laws – and to identify laws that are being influenced by technology trends and may therefore require modification.

The CLIC is sponsored by box, a provider of cloud collaboration services. Both CSA and Box (News - Alert) have planned to host a panel entitled, “US and Foreign Laws Regulating Government Access to Data Held in the Cloud” on February 28 to discuss the various options available for individuals and enterprises from the CLIC.

The CLIC features both its own sponsored content and other offline resources that cover a range of issues related to the rule of laws governing access of governments to data held in the cloud.

Some of the CLIC sponsored content includes: Government Access to Data Held by U.S. Cloud Service Providers; Article 29 Working Party Cloud Computing Opinion; What the Proposed EU Data Protection Regulation Means for Cloud Users; and more.
