IntercontinentalExchange Rechristens YellowJacket as ICE Chat

By Jayashree Adkoli, TMCnet Contributor

Starting July 16, 2012, IntercontinentalExchange (ICE)’s instant messaging (IM) platform YellowJacket will be ICE Chat, available as a value-added feature of the company’s WebICE.

IntercontinentalExchange is an operator of regulated futures exchanges and over-the-counter (OTC) markets for agricultural, credit, currency, emissions, energy and equity index contracts.

The company’s YellowJacket IM platform, rebranded as ICE Chat, is a well-known communications network in the derivatives markets for instant messaging and complex negotiations. The firm has been in operation for over a decade.

“We are pleased to rebrand YellowJacket under the ICE name,” David Goone, senior VP and chief strategic officer, said in a statement. “The expansion of WebICE to include ICE Chat's sophisticated, widely-distributed instant messaging tool as a value-added feature demonstrates our commitment to meeting today's evolving trading and compliance requirements.”

ICE’s Chat platform combines the power of instant messaging, automation and data integration to help market participants streamline data and increase productivity across market participant's workflow from market data, analytics, execution and communications.

Users of ICE Chat will be able to access all contacts across multiple instant messaging systems, including AIM and Yahoo, through ICE Chat using existing accounts.

Apart from allowing users to share messages across an entire desk for a consistent view of the market, ICE Chat also provides users with interactive tools designed specifically for brokers and traders to organize messages, manage customer responses and set real-time alerts.

Offering a reliable network along with around-the-clock technical support, the chat tool also promises to meet the security, data control and compliance requirements of the most demanding firms, and expects to be SEF-compliant.

All of these basic features of ICE Chat will be available as a value-added feature for all WebICE users for no additional fee, according to officials with ICE.

The two versions of ICE Chat, namely ICE Chat Pro and ICE Chat Pro X, will offer premium features for a fee that includes quote recognition technology that instantly transforms instant messages into structured quotes, displayed in a quote console alongside executable electronic prices for a consolidated market view.

Both versions also include pricing model integration that instantly returns pricing and risk metrics to instantly recognize trading opportunities.

In recent news, ICE unveiled WebICE version 12.600, as well as other ICE platform improvements such as additional support for customized trading strategies.
