Real-Time Chat Tool Helps Publishers Engage Readers

By Ashok Bindra, TMCnet Contributor

BetaKit.com reports that that U.K.-based Blooie has launched a real-time chat tool to engage website visitors to discuss online content with others of similar interests. This platform gives publishers a tool to further engage their readers, wrote BetaKit senior writer Humayun Khan.

As per the report, Blooie supports over 200 online publishers to date, and has raised about $130,520 in seed funding from investors, Northstar Ventures and IP Group.

The report shows that installing the Blooie chat platform is easy. All it requires is adding two lines of code, which then enables the site to host real-time conversations, says the developer. The chat button can be placed at the selected location of user’s website.

“After it is installed, visitors can click the Blooie button to get started with another visitor to discuss the content,” wrote Khan.

“Blooie itself is a platform that can sit on any website,” the report quoted cofounder and CEO Mark Ryan. “It’s really easy to install, it’s only two lines of code. What it then gives your website is the functionality to host a conversation. It doesn’t matter where the two parties are coming from…as long as the content is relevant or the person is relevant based on things they’ve spoken about in the past.”

According to BetaKit.com, Blooie has developed a backend algorithm that uses a number of variables to enable two people with similar interests to chat and discuss content on the website. Besides matching two users who are viewing the same website and content in real time, it also matches viewers who are engaged in relevant content on two different sites with Blooie’s installed platform.

Blooie also looks for people who may be on an unrelated site, but may have engaged with similar content or demonstrated an interest in that particular topic in the past. It also recommends related content for both viewers to move on to.

The service is free for both content providers and visitors. However, Blooie charges content providers who would like some analytics around the conversations and levels of engagement.
