With the proliferation of smartphones and the growing popularity of social media applications, the demand for live chat and two-way text messaging is escalating.

Considering the growth of live chat and messaging applications ICAP Patent Brokerage has just announced it is offering a two-way SMS messaging solution from Bulletin.net Inc., for sale. The cloud-based solution is designed to enable a two-way text SMS messaging services between an IP application and a wireless communication device.

"As social networking and smart phone usage continues to experience exponential growth, we are excited to offer this cloud messaging tool to our global base of buyers," said Dean Becker, CEO of ICAP Patent Brokerage.

“Web app messaging innovations are in high demand and this two-way SMS messaging portfolio presents a reliable solution that is mutually beneficial to the application service providers and end-users,” according to Becker.

The technology can be used send and receive SMS text communication between Web apps and mobile devices. The communications can be application-to-person (A2P) or Web-to-mobile communications. The package consists of a Web-hosted SMS gateway for connecting applications to the global wireless network and transmitting messages to and from mobile devices.

The SMS text messaging technology finds a number of applications including social networking, group messaging, instant messaging, ISP services, marketing campaigns, enterprise communications, financial services, account verifications, alerting services, customer notifications, and database access among other applications.

An advantage of this IP-based technology is that it does not retain information about how the messages are related to each other, so message threading is not maintained. This means that by utilizing a pool of temporary phone numbers or short codes, the technology disclosed allows this correlation to take place, which provides the essential mechanism for threading and message history. As a result, the mobile device user can reply to the original sender since the gateway described maintains the address of the sender and matches it with the reply.

ICAP Patent Brokerage is auctioning the software at the 17th ICAP Ocean Tomo IP Auction on November 29, 2012, at The Ritz Carlton in San Francisco, California.
