In case you don’t spend enough of your time online in social networking environments, video chat company Rounds is announcing the launch of the mobile version of its social entertainment platform – available worldwide for free – dubbed, “Rounds Video Chat Hangout.”
Tel Aviv, Israel-based Rounds now allows users to use their mobile devices to engage in video chat-based activities with their mobile contacts and Facebook (News - Alert) friends, such as playing games, co-browsing, watching Youtube videos with other people, commenting on one another’s video streams, listening to music, chatting and sharing photos. (In other words, it’s likely to be popular with the under 30 set.) The mobile version of the service is compatible with iPhone 4-4S-5 and the most popular Android (News - Alert) devices, said the company.
The Rounds platform reportedly boasts over six million users who spend an average of 40 minutes hanging out in over one million sessions each day. The cross-platform service connects users between its popular Facebook app, Chrome application and desktop version for Mac & PC. Users play over 30 different games and activities developed using the platform’s open API. The Rounds community will likely see an influx of new users now that the mobile version of the service has been launched.
“Video chat is an indispensable part of Rounds, but it’s just the tip of the hangout network we’re building,” said Rounds CEO Dany Fishel in a statement announcing the launch of the service.
“The Internet has enough ways to communicate essential messages with video. Rounds is about stretching the live connection into a true hangout mode – less about what’s being said, and more about being and doing things together, and recreating the feeling people have when they hang out in real life. And because real life doesn’t just happen behind a desktop, we’ve always known Rounds was destined to become mobile. Rounds Video Chat Hangout is the next step in achieving our vision as the online hangout scene for real friends,” added Fishel.
