GL Web Television, a division of the Canadian telecommunications service provider Gold Line, has recently picked ZiXi’s Video Transport Platform to offer 400 channels of high-quality, live and on demand TV programming over the public Internet.

ZiXi officials said that the new deployment will enable GL Web to offer over-the-top (OTT) content to more than 500,000 subscribers worldwide via several mobile devices, including the Apple iPad, Android (News - Alert), and Amazon.com's Kindle Fire.

"The ZiXi Video Transport Platform is simply amazing – it's an affordable, scalable solution that enables us to deliver broadcast quality video over the Internet without the use of expensive CDNs,” Arash Bafekr, Gold Line's vice president of operations, said.

Bafekr said that they were previously hooked to analog-to-digital solution, which caused immense image quality degradation and now the new ZiXi’s technology pushes through higher bit rates and deliver broadcast quality video over the Internet at a fraction of the cost.

“Without ZiXi, we would not have been able to even launch this service, because the cost would have been prohibitive to reach such a huge audience that is growing daily," Bafekr said.

ZiXi’s technology offers OTT content to subscribers enabling them to watch array of programming without any jitter, stutter, or long latency. This is sourced via GLWeb Television on GLArab.com and GLWiz.com.

Users even can get to choose the mode of the OTT content, which is offered in two packages: for free via ZiXi over the public Internet through a consumer's home computer or mobile device, or as a subscription package with Gold Line's GL Box enabled with ZiXi through a home TV.
